Field summary

Short profile

Best when the plan stops existing.

Rigel is capable, practical, socially easy, and dangerous without needing to advertise it. He thrives in close, messy situations where timing and improvisation matter more than elegance. Warmth makes him approachable; competence makes him trustworthy. The jokes usually mean everyone can breathe again—or that Rigel would rather nobody notice what the danger cost him.

01

Backstory

Atlas brought Rigel and Orion together when they were young. The training overlapped—fieldcraft, weapons, judgment, survival—but Rigel’s instincts soon found their own direction. Orion learned to prepare for every possibility. Rigel learned how to keep moving after every possibility had gone wrong.

He built his reputation in protection and extraction work: entering unstable situations, finding the people who still needed to leave, and building an exit from whatever remained. He uses terrain, machinery, damaged equipment, bad timing, and an opponent’s mistakes with equal fluency. A workable decision now matters more to him than a perfect decision too late.

The mercenary work has never erased his moral line. Rigel chooses people over causes and refuses jobs built on trafficking, massacres, political disappearances, intimidation of civilians, or harm to children. Grand ideals impress him considerably less once they begin treating human beings as acceptable losses.

02

Relationship to Orion

Orion is one of Rigel’s oldest and most trusted friends—effectively a brother and always a professional peer. Rigel knew him before the wanted posters, stage persona, and mythology, which makes him largely immune to all three. He is one of the few men alive who can insult Orion during a firefight and still be trusted to cover the exit.

Their strengths grew together without becoming identical. Orion helped teach Rigel patience, preparation, pattern recognition, and tactical discipline. Rigel taught Orion adaptability, social ease, humor under pressure, and the difficult art of letting someone else carry part of the load.

The trust between them is settled, but agreement is not required. Orion often asks what is right in principle. Rigel asks what gets everyone home alive. The difference can cause real arguments; it has never made either man doubt who will still be standing beside him when the argument becomes dangerous.

03

The life after

Rigel plays acoustic guitar and sings, and he is entirely comfortable taking the lead when he performs with Orion. He half-jokingly talks about starting a band someday. The joke survives mostly because admitting how much he means it would make the idea dangerous.

The band belongs to the same private future as a repair shop, familiar neighbors, and a place where people know how to find him. None of it is about fame. To Rigel, ordinary life is proof that survival eventually led somewhere.

He continues taking dangerous work anyway—sometimes because Orion calls. The contradiction bothers him more than he usually lets anyone see.
